Where the region of Gorenjska is ending up, and where the region of Primorska is beginning, there is Ski Center Cerkno. The slopes of Črni vrh, a mountain 1291 meters high, are a homeland of this new ski pearl, excelling by ideal geographic position, by good snow statistics (so far as natural and artificial snow is concerned), by 70 hectares of well prepared ski resorts by a convenient access, in brief, by all facilities which can be offered to the ski enthusiast as well as to the ski beginner.
Cerkno Ski Centre is a family resort with approximately 11 miles of pisted ski runs, suitable for beginners, intermediate and experienced skiers. The ski centre also has snow cannons making artificial snow when needed. For cross country skiers there is approximately 1 mile of pisted tracks. Cerkno Ski Centre has the fastest, modern lift system in Slovenia with its two six seater chair lifts, two four seater chair lifts, two two seater chair lifts and two t-bar lifts. There are also two conveyor lifts for children and beginners at ski school and ski kindergarden.
At the top of the main lift station there is a beautiful, alpine style self-service restaurant with a large outside terrace and panoramic views all around. On a clear day you can see across to Triglav Mountain, the highest peak in Slovenia (2.864m). Above the indoor restaurant there is a childrens play area with caves, a slide, small tables and chairs, television and rest area. There are also six luxurious ski to door apartments adjacent to the restaurant with sauna and balconies.
In addition the ski centre has made a snow fun park which was open in January 2010 for all adrenalin seekers, including half pipe for snow boarders and acrobatic skiers.
One of the options for those who like to spend their vacations actively is also mountaineering. Average hight of the Cerkno hills is 1000m. Between ridges and mountains there are crystal clear streams and rivers, among mountains there are several plains rising above incredible gorges. Cerkno region is a crossing for many trekking routes like Slovenian mountain route, European walking route Nr. E7, red route Via Alpina, Voralpe route.

The Cerkno hills are every cyclist's dream. Choose a short and easy tour, or a long and difficult one, where a high level of physical fitness is crucial. Trip across plateu Šebreljska planota
The trip includes a guided tour to prehistoric archaeological site Divje babe, karst cave, located near the village of Šebrelje, among the Idrija and Cerkno hills. In this prehistoric park, archaeologists found the remains of cave bear, stone-made and bone-made tools, and residues of burning places of the Ice Age man. The most famous interception is 55,000 year old bone flute, which is considered as the oldest musical instrument in the world.
Cerkljanska Laufarija - meet traditional carnival figures
You can go on a one-day excursion, that includes a tour of the permanent exhibition "Pust is to blame!" - A story about the Cerkno Laufarija, traditional carnival figures. The trip continues with skiing on one of the most popular family Ski Centre - SC Cerkno, and ends with carnival parade and ceremony.
Trip across Cerkno region
Excursion begins with a guided tour of the partisan hospital, which represents a symbol of Slovene partisan health and bears witness to incredible humanity and self-sacrifice of taking care of the wounded. Franja Partisan Hospital has been added on the tentative list of the Unesco World Heritage and is one of the European Heritage sites. Next stop is the Cerkno Museum, where there are two permanent exhibitions on display. One of them is "The Cerkno Region through the Centuries", which offers a comprehensive presentation of the historical development of the Cerkno region with the exeption of archaelogical periods,and the other exhibition is "Pust is to blame!", which tells the story of the Cerkno carnival figures known as laufarji. The journey will end with a visit of the Military museum in Trebenče, where there is more than 1000 items, mostly from the first and second Word War, on display.

The Idrijca river in summer attracts many bathers, who want to refresh and relax on natural beaches by the river.

Hotel Cerkno has an indoor swimming pool with thermal water, suitable for recreation, swimming club preparation, or relaxation. There is organized swimming for seniors, swimming courses for beginners, water aerobics. Especially in winter time swimming pool is a place to warm up and relax.
