Kobilarna Lipica

The over 400 year tradition of breeding these white horses has been preserved to the present day in the centre of the unique Karst landscape and represents one of the most beautiful natural and cultural monuments of Slovenia.

Karst villages

Homesteads face south and are closed on the northern side, their residential part is usually complemented by agricultural buildings built around an enclosed courtyard – borjač. The construction of houses has always adapted to natural conditions, so Karst houses used to be made entirely out of stone, from the foundation to the roof, as that is a material which is abundant in the Karst.

Nowadays, stone represents the people from Karst special value, specially shaped stone who has always symbolized wealth. They were preserved in a number of workshops where artisans produce useful objects for everyday life, souvenirs and building elements, which allow genuine Karst architecture to be continued.
